DOVE Cancer Support is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) community-based organization located in the heart of Memphis, TN urban communities. The primary mission of DOVE Cancer Support is to promote, empower, and strengthen minority communities through quality health centered programs and disease prevention initiatives to help address: health disparities, access to primary care services, and at-risk behavior among underserved families in inner city neighborhoods in Memphis, TN. The vision of DOVE Cancer Support is to become a one-stop resource center for primary health care services, mental health and substance abuse services for families and communities in the Memphis and Shelby County areas.
DOVE Cancer Support is a thriving and innovative health organization established to create health centered activities in low-income communities that otherwise would have the opportunity to receive basic primary care services. DOVE Cancer Support has core neighborhood support groups which consist of dedicated community-based volunteers, participants, business leaders, churches, faith-based partners, and other program agencies. Our health centered events have created wide spread media attention for bringing community awareness of medically underserved areas within African-American communities.
DOVE Cancer Support has been a major change agent in implementing health initiatives to improve the quality of life for families in Memphis and Shelby County for over 6 years and has a history for establishing health driven programs within Memphis inner city neighborhoods.
Our primary services consist of cancer education and awareness by getting mammogram screenings and early detection screenings, disease prevention education and health screenings, neighborhood health events, health drives, and health support services for those who are uninsured or homeless, and our annual “Annie Hicks Hope Walk” dedicated to bringing breast cancer awareness to the inner city neighborhoods of North Memphis.
Our healthcare team members consist of families, friends, volunteers, church groups, businesses, and other healthcare agencies who participate in reaching our communities by providing opportunities for primary care services to those who otherwise would not have access to healthcare. Dove Cancer Support is known for uniting our communities through research, education, advocacy, and awareness.
The programs under DOVE Cancer Support currently provide outreach services, health education, health centered activities, prevention trainings, targeted interventions and community support services for consumers and providers in the Memphis and Shelby county areas with a special emphasis placed on eliminating disparities and improving the health and well-being of adults, youths, and children in our communities. While our programs are available to all families in Memphis and Shelby County our target population is for low-income, minority-based families in medically underserved areas.
